Independent Behavioral Consultation

Sometimes a child needs behavioral support beyond traditional ABA therapy. Individualized Supports provides independent behavioral consultation services for families, schools, community providers, and other professionals seeking expert behavioral assessment and recommendations.

Our consultation services are individualized, evidence-based, and designed to promote meaningful, lasting behavioral change across home, school, and community environments.

Whether your child has an existing diagnosis, is awaiting an evaluation, or simply presents with challenging behaviors that interfere with learning or daily functioning, we can help identify the underlying causes of behavior and develop practical, individualized recommendations.

Independent Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)

A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is a comprehensive evaluation used to identify why challenging behaviors occur and the environmental factors that influence them. Our assessments include direct observation, caregiver and staff interviews, record review, and other behavior analytic assessment procedures to identify the function of behavior and guide intervention planning.

FBAs may be appropriate for children experiencing:

  • Aggression

  • Self-injurious behavior

  • Elopement

  • Property destruction

  • Noncompliance

  • Disruptive classroom behavior

  • Emotional outbursts

  • School refusal

  • Social or communication challenges

  • Other behaviors that interfere with learning or daily activities

Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)

Following completion of the Functional Behavior Assessment, a comprehensive Behavior Intervention Plan is developed. Each plan includes individualized, evidence-based strategies designed to reduce challenging behaviors while teaching functional replacement skills.

Recommendations may include:

  • Antecedent interventions

  • Environmental modifications

  • Teaching strategies

  • Reinforcement systems

  • Functional communication supports

  • Data collection recommendations

  • Implementation guidelines for caregivers and professionals

School-Based Behavioral Consultation

We can collaborate with schools to develop practical, individualized behavioral supports that can be implemented within the educational setting.

School consultation services may include:

  • Classroom observations

  • Teacher interviews

  • Behavioral consultation

  • Independent Functional Behavior Assessments

  • Behavior Intervention Plan development

  • Staff training and coaching

  • Collaboration with educational teams

  • Participation in school meetings (upon request)

General Consultation Services

Every child and family has unique needs, and not every situation requires a comprehensive Functional Behavior Assessment. Individualized Supports also provides individualized behavioral consultation services for families, schools, and professionals seeking expert guidance on specific behavioral concerns.

General consultation services may include independent review of existing Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs); review of IEPs, 504 Plans, evaluations, and other educational documents; behavioral consultation to address challenges at home, school, or in the community; analysis of behavioral data and intervention programs; and collaboration with parents, schools, physicians, psychologists, therapists, Care Management Organizations (CMOs), DCP&P, attorneys, and other professionals.

If you are unsure whether you need a comprehensive assessment or simply guidance regarding an existing behavioral concern, we are happy to discuss your situation and recommend the consultation service that best meets your needs.

Our consultation services may be appropriate for:

  • Children Awaiting an Autism or Developmental Evaluation

    • Children who are exhibiting challenging behaviors and need behavioral support and recommendations while waiting for a formal diagnosis or access to ABA services.

    • Families looking to better understand the reasons behind their child's behavior and receive individualized, evidence-based recommendations to support success at home, school, and in the community.

  • Children with Challenging Behaviors

    • Children demonstrating aggression, self-injurious behavior, elopement, property destruction, noncompliance, severe tantrums, emotional dysregulation, unsafe behaviors, or other behaviors that interfere with learning or daily functioning.

  • Students Experiencing Behavioral Difficulties at School

    • Students who may benefit from classroom observations, behavioral assessment, or individualized recommendations to improve participation, classroom success, transitions, peer interactions, and school routines.

  • Families Preparing for Educational Meetings

    • Families participating in IEP meetings, 504 Plan meetings, Child Study Team evaluations, manifestation determination meetings, or other educational planning meetings who would like an independent behavioral evaluation and professional recommendations.

  • Foster, Adoptive, and Kinship Families

    • Families seeking behavioral consultation to address adjustment challenges, trauma-related behaviors, emotional regulation, attachment concerns, or other complex behavioral needs.

  • Children Not Making Expected Progress
